Bal Vikas (Sai Spiritual Education) Wing

The Bal Vikas (SSE) activities of a Sri Sathya Sai Centre/Group include the following items. This list is not exhaustive and new ideas and initiatives may well be considered by the Centre/Group.

  • Organising Bal Vikas (SSE) classes for the children of Sai devotees. Children from non-Sai devotee families are also welcome to attend, as long as they have faith in God.
  • All Bal Vikas (SSE) gurus must be properly trained, and the programmes should be properly supervised and implement international and national guidelines.
  • Parents should be encouraged and motivated to take full interest and to participate in the Bal Vikas (SSE) programmes for children.
  • Sri Sathya Sai Baba emphasises the critical importance of the role of parents in the holistic development of the child. Accordingly, efforts should be made to provide support and training for parents to prepare them to assist their children in surmounting the many negative influences they face growing up in today’s society.

Service Wing

  • Any service activities undertaken by Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups should cater for a real need that exists in the community and not merely be a service of convenience. To ensure this, proper research must first be undertaken.
  • To ensure professionalism in service activities, Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups shall plan half-yearly or yearly activities or programmes and provide adequate training and motivation for members to participate in these activities, with priority on training Sai leaders.
  • The leadership of all Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups shall motivate active members to take part in service activities to ensure spiritual transformation through the principal path of loving and selfless service.
  • The Service team should also investigate ways to reverse the trend towards wanton destruction of the earth and its precious resources and the serious decline in the practice of human values.
  • The purpose of doing service is to manifest the divinity latent in every individual. Service is the most effective way to attain spiritual progress and to overcome the ego.
  • The spiritual significance of service must be emphasised and explained to all. Members should be informed that for service to become a spiritual practice (Sadhana), it must be undertaken regularly.

Spiritual Wing

The Spiritual activities of a Sri Sathya Sai Centre/Group should include the following items. This list is not exhaustive and new ideas and initiatives may well be considered by the Sri Sathya Sai Centre/Group.

  • Organising Group Devotional Singing (Bhajans). The weekly devotional meeting with its devotional group singing is the highlight of the week for many devotees. It can be an intensely spiritual activity, in which the focus on each song and its meaning brings one closer to the Lord.
  • It is the responsibility of Sri Sathya Sai Centre/Group leaders to ensure that study circles should be conducted and that they should be informative, interesting and relevant to the daily lives of members.
  • The Spiritual team should regularly raise awareness and understanding of the nine-point code of conduct and the ten guiding principles.
  • Centres and Groups must spread Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s Divine message of selfless love and service but shall avoid evangelising. However, public meetings that depict the life of and message of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and the great educational and humanitarian programmes inspired by Him and the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation are appropriate and permissible and are to be encouraged.
  •  All Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups should aim to conduct Jyoti (light) meditation classes for members as recommended by Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and meditation should be an integral part of devotional singing sessions.
  • Whenever possible, regular study circles on human values and spirituality should be organised for non-Sai devotees.
  • Establishing and maintaining a programme of newcomer welcome and orientation for new members.
  • Maintaining a reference library and reading room of Sai publications and journals and audio–video recordings for devotees to use, if possible.
  • Undertaking other activities which can help to expand and intensify the Spiritual practices of devotees.

Young Adults Wing

Sri Sathya Sai Baba has said that Young Adults (youth) are the potential leaders of tomorrow.

Members between the ages of 18 and 35 shall be termed Young Adults. All Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups should aim to develop Young Adult talents and abilities and to show Young Adults that a spiritually filled, value-orientated lifestyle is possible. Sri Sathya Sai Centres/Groups should provide opportunities for Young Adults to participate in all the wings and therefore to evolve spiritually.

The Young Adults Wing provides an opportunity to discuss practical issues faced in leading a spiritual life and following Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings. Young Adults are an integral part of the UK Organisation and as such are expected to participate in Sri Sathya Sai Centre/Group activities and contribute actively to them.
